REVIEW – New Song “Kill Me” by Al Menne

By Shea Roney

Broken down into a somber and memorable line, Al Menne makes “kill me now please” rest just as easy on the ears and soul as “I hope you know I love you.” Known as the lead singer for Seattle-based band, Great Grandpa, Menne is set to release their first debut album, Freak Accident, on September 22, 2023 off of Double Double Whammy.

“Kill Me,” Menne’s charming lead single, is a delicate approach to unreciprocated displays of love when it is most needed. Accompanied by warm folk stylings of slide guitar and a gentle acoustic groove, Menne sings, “do you remember saying it scared you to death to know how much I love you?” An utterance that sits roughly in the gut, but still makes you bob your head in blissful indulgence.

Produced by Christian Lee Hutson, engineered and mixed by Melina Duterte (Jay Som) and an accompanying music video directed by Chris Ferran, Menne and friends seek out the comfort in loneliness with a lighthearted tune that sticks to your bones after every listen.

Al Menne does not currently have tour dates lined up for the release of Freak Accident.
